Police call for orderly campaigns in Erongo

THE Namibian Police in the Erongo Region has called on the supporters and organizers of various political parties to conduct their campaigns in a calm and orderly fashion.

 

Warrant Officer Ileni Shapumba, Commander of the Community Affairs Sub Division in the region said as the last weekend available for campaigning for next week’s Presidential and National Assembly Elections has arrived that all types of interference and violence during campaigns should be avoided at all cost.

“As long as supporters of the various political parties do their campaigning within the ambit of the law there could be no problems. People are requested to notify the police if they are organising a gathering or a march in order for us to provide the necessary safety and security measures.”

 

He said all forms of violence or interference should be avoided to allow for peaceful elections. He said people should also avoid blocking roads as a form of interference.

 

“Elections come and go and once completed we all have to live together again. Any unlawful activities might have long lasting consequences for the perpetrators and we do not want or need that at this stage.”
