FORMER editor and poet, Peter Mvula ya Nangolo, early this morning passed away at his home in Hochland Park at the age of 75.
The retired special advisor to the Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) was a colourful and well-known character in especially the city centre in recent years.
He was also a great lover of the arts and published many poems and books, including ‘From Exile’, which was published in 1976, 1991’s ‘Thoughts From Exile’, 1995’s political documentary ‘Kassinga – A Story Untold’ and his latest work ‘Watering The Beloved Desert’ which is a collection of new poems.
Ya Nangolo was born in Oniimwandi on 9 August 1943.
He lived in Germany in exile and upon his return to Africa, Ya Nangolo lived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he established a TV programme on Namibia that would be broadcast in English, Afrikaans, Oshiwambo and Otjiherero.
He eventually went on to become the first editor of Swapo’s newspaper, Namibia Today.
