THE young Namibian Correctional Services officer that was deemed a person of interest in the execution style killing of Eckhart Mueller and Heimo Hellwig on the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMPT) Arandis Campus was set free after being questioned by detectives.
He became a person of interest after manipulating a social media post from 2017 in which he allegedly ‘prophesised’ the murder of a couple of Namibian souls.
Erongo Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Andreas Nelumbu, confirmed that the young man from Tsumeb was set free earlier on Wednesday after he was taken in for questioning on Tuesday evening.
Not enough evidence was found to link him to the heinous murder at Arandis.
A second person who was taken into custody for questioning is, however, still being detained by police.
The person of interest had a document in his possession that states that he is a PLAN war veteran when he was apprehended at the Engen Service Station in Karibib on Tuesday evening.
The Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga, confirmed the detention of the two persons of interest early on Wednesday morning and said that certain items were found in the possession of the former freedom fighter that justifies further incarceration for questioning.
