The decomposed body of a 63-year-old pensioner from Bethanie was on Saturday discovered at his home after neighbours detected a strong smell coming from his house.
According police spokesperson, Immanuel Iiduwa, Jacob Riekert , 63, was last seen by his neighbours on 1 January arguing with two well-known men in the community.
“His neighbours could not enter his house to do further inspections because the smell was too strong,” Iiduwa said.
A 31-year-old man has since been arrested and a manhunt for a second suspect is underway.
The cause of death is at this point still unknown.
In a separate incident, a woman from Karuci village got the shock of her life after she left her husband at a shebeen after he had collapsed following a night of drinking, only to find his dead body the following morning.
It is reported that Kapanga Muyenga, 51, collapsed at a shebeen in the company of his wife, who was under the impression that he was merely drunk.
His wife reportedly left him there and went home, only to return the next morning to find his lifeless body at the same spot where he had collapsed the previous night. The incident occurred on Sunday.
Meanwhile, a five-month-old baby was found dead in her mother’s room when she fell off the bed and got stuck between the bed and a zinc plate of the shack.
It is alleged that the deceased, Lavinia Erastus’ mother, who is a bartender, put her to sleep and went back to the bar to continue work. The incident occurred on Sunday at Onayena.
