A YOUNG man accused of brutally killing his mother, his brother, his baby niece and injuring two other children with a panga at a homestead at the Epatululo Village in the Ohangwena region has been arrested.
The spokesperson of the Namibian Police in the Ohangwena Region, Warrant Officer Abner Itumba, confirmed the horrific attack, as well as the arrest of the murder suspect, who is reportedly in his mid-20s.
Itumba said the suspect also killed eight goats and a dog during his rampage at the homestead before fleeing on foot in the direction of the Okakwa village.
“The suspect was tracked down at the Okakwa village and taken into custody,” he said.
Shocked neighbours said they were awoken early on Tuesday morning by the screams for help of members of the family next door.
The police was called to the scene and when they arrived, some of the officers started following the tracks of the suspected panga killer.
Itumba said the motive for the brutal attack is still unknown, but it is suspected that the suspect was under the influence of some kind of intoxicating substance when he went on the killing spree.
Police have not yet released the names of the victims, which include a 3-month-old baby.
