OPAWA and Evale Combined Schools were on Saturday crowned the champions of the soccer and netball categories respectively of the first ever Bernhard Easu tournament, held in Omuthiya of Oshikoto Region.
Opawa and Evale as champions each walked away with N$5 000, while King Kauluma CS and Oniipa Primary School as the second runners up in netball and soccer scooped N$3 000.
Khomxa Khoeda CS and Niigambo CS walked away with N$1 500 respectively as the third runners up.
Each winning school received fish and soccer balls, complementary to their prizes.
Namibian Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) spokesperson, De Wet Siluka said the soccer and netball competition titled ‘Hon Bernhard Esau’ 7-a-side Soccer Tournament was part of the Namibia Fish Consumption Day.
According to him, four netball and 14 soccer teams had forms part of the tournament, adding that its participation was limited to school-going boys and girls under 15 years whose teams were selected from 11 constituencies of the region.
According to Siluka, the soccer tournament will coincide with NFCPT roadshow in all 11 constituencies of the Oshikoto Region focusing on theatre, drama, mascot, dance performance, audience interactions, dancing competition, quizzes, and fish sales.
The tournament will be held //Karas Region next year.
