THE 27-year-old Simeon Mekondjo Leevi died and another person sustained injuries, after the car in which they were travelling in overturned on the road between Outapi and Okalongo on Friday evening.
The spokesperson of the Namibian Police in the Omusati Region, Inspector Linekela Shikongo said the incident occurred at about 18:16, near the Onawa village in the Anamulenge Constituency on the D3611 Road.
“It is alleged that the driver of a white Toyota pick-up with registration number N3698UP, was overtaking a silver Toyota corolla sedan car with registration number N11004 UP, and lost control over the motor vehicle in the process. As a result the Toyota pick-up overturned and both the driver and his passenger were thrown out of the motor vehicle,” said Shikongo.
According to Shikongo, the driver died at the scene of the accident while the passenger sustained only moderate injuries. The driver of the Toyota Corolla survived unscathed and suffered no damage to his vehicle.
“The injured passenger was rushed to Outapi District Hospital for medical attention,” he said and added that the deceased person was a resident of the Onanwa village.
