Vice President Nangolo Mbumba urged the Ondangwa Town Council to derive optimal benefits from existing infrastructure and use it to develop the town into an economic hub.
Mbumba said Ondangwa it will be ideal for the town to become an investment destination, as it is the only town in the far northern central regions with an airport and a train station.
Ondangwa is strategically located on the B1 road, which gives it access to the Ohangwena, Oshana and Oshikoto regions.
“In order to fully integrate Ondangwa economically, socially and environmentally as outlined in the Town Council’s strategic plan, the investment policy and local economic development strategy states that existing infrastructure should be utilised to invite more genuine investors to do business in town and surrounding areas,” stated Mbumba.
Mbumba added that the aim is to stimulate growth of the local economy in order to bring about tangible economic spin-offs.
Ondangwa Town Council Chief Executive Officer, Ismael Namgongo, agreed with the Vice President and said Ondangwa is unique and blessed with some of the best national economic infrastructure.
“The existing infrastructure should be turned into a meaningful competitive advantage for Ondangwa in order for the region to flourish,” said Namgongo.
He added that one of the targets that the council has set for themselves is to turn the town into an industrial hub for the central northern regions.
Michael Mwinga, special advisor to the governor of the Oshana Region, commended the leadership of Ondangwa for their continued efforts and perseverance in putting up all the necessary developmental infrastructure and for their strategic intent in attracting more prominent investors essential for the transformation and advancement of Ondangwa.
