Hundreds of people from various communities in the Ohangwena Region gathered at Eenhana in to pay their last respects to the late Major General Peter Nambundunga.
General Nambundunga died at the age of 72, on the 14 January after a short illness in Ongwediva Medipark.
The Minister of Safety and Security, Major General Charles Namoloh, officiated at the memorial service and in his tribute to his former brother in arms, described the late Nambundunga as a true hero and fearless freedom fighter of the struggle for the liberation of Namibia.
The President of Namibia, Dr. Hage Geingob earlier this week declared a period of national mourning and bestowed a state funeral on the retired general.
The remains of Major General Nambundunga will be interred at Omugulugombashe in Omusati Region on Saturday, 26 January 2019.
The memorial service was held earlier on Wednesday at the ELCIN Church in Eenhana.
