RAPE claims have rocked the Elcin Church congregation in Eenghushe Village in the Ohangwena region after a pastor, Onesmus Angula, was implicated in the sexual assault of a minor.
Angula today appeared at the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court for raping a minor for a period of eight months.
According to Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi, head of the Public Relations Division of the Namibian Police, the suspect was denied bail during his appearance and the matter was postponed to 31 October 2019 for further police investigations.
He added that the rape took place between January 2019 and August 2019 at the Eenghushe village.
According to police information, Angula repeatedly raped the minor at his church sponsored house whenever she was going to or coming from school.
It is further alleged that the suspect bought the victim a cellphone in an attempt to silence her and gave her contraceptives to prevent her falling pregnant.
Although the victim is now 17, the rape started when she was 16 years of age.
