Nigeria beat the defending Africa Cup of Nations champions, Cameroon, with three goals to two and by doing so, progressed to the quarterfinals of the 2019 tournament.
It seemed to be all smooth sailing for the Super Eagles when they scored the first goal of the round-of-16 match against the Indomitable Lions but Cameroon fought back and led 2 – 1 at the end of the first half.
The first goal of the match was scored by Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo in the 19th minute of the first half.
Cameroon scored two goals in quick succession in the last five minutes of the first half. Stéphan Bahoken scored the first and three minutes later Clinton Njié put the second goal for Cameroon in the back of the net.
Ighalo scored Nigeria’s second goal in the 63rd minute and Alex Iwobi did the same three minutes later which the Super Eagles in the lead which they maintained until the final whistle blew.
