MINISTER of Sport, Youth and National Service Erastus Uutoni, said the decision to host the Namibia Annual Sports Awards, was a collaboration between his ministry and the Namibia Sport Commission with the aim of reaching out and supporting the development of sports in all corners of the country.
Uutoni made the remarks during the 16th edition of the NASA, held at Ondangwa on Saturday evening.
According to him, the 16th edition of the NASA’s is part of the rewards programme aimed at providing a unique opportunity for them to motivate affiliate sporting federations, team’s sports and individuals by recognizing and celebrating meritorious service and outstanding achievements in sport.
“The rational of hosting the NASA’s is not only about rewarding excellence, but also promoting sport as a tool that unites our country and that can be used as a catalyst for sustainable development,” he stated.
Uutoni appealed to corporate and business personalities and the general public to continue to rally their support behind the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) by committing sponsorship both in monetary or in kind support towards the annual hosting of this prestigious event.
He also reaffirmed their commitment as government that they will continue to work together with everyone as important strategic partners in seeking solutions faced by the sport industry.
Speaking at the same occasion, Regional Governor of Oshana Elia Irimari, said that he hopes that government will continue to support this cause in all its other programmes and activities.
Irimari stated that the Oshana Region remains ready to host the 17th edition of the NASA’s in 2020.
