Brave Warriors lost their third and final AFCON game against Ivory Coast 4 – 1 which saw their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations dreams shattered.
Namibia needed a win and hoped for luck with the result of the other Group D match between Morocco and South Africa but fell short despite much of the ball possession and half missed chances.
The Ivory Coast took the lead after about 40 minutes of play in the first half when they put a the ball in the back of the net after a short overhead pass to striker Max-Alain Gradel.
The score stood at 1 – 0 for the Elephants when the half time whistle blew.
The Ivorian captain Serey Dié scored the Elephants’ second goal 12 minutes into the second half minute from a longs distance.
However, Joslyn Kamatuka capitalised on an intercept and scored a magnificent goal for the Brave Warriors in the 70th minute of the match.
The Elephants kept on sniping at the Namibian goal and eventually succeeded with an attempt when Wilfried Zaha put the ball in the back of the net in the 82nd minute
Five minutes later Maxwell Cornet scored the fourth goal of the match for the Ivorians after some fancy footwork in front of the Namibian goal
Both the Brave Warriors and the Elephants had excellent opportunities at goal in the first half.
About 20 minutes into the first half the Namibians struggled to capitalise on a corner shot and came tantalisingly close to scoring a goal. Another missed opportunity was when a header by the brave Warriors missed the goal mouth by mere centimetres.
About five minutes later the Ivorians rallied at the Namibian goal but also missed the target a few times but just barely.
The other Group D match ended in defeat for South Africa after Morocco scored the winning goal in the dying seconds of the game.
