The two men accused of beating another young man, the 29-year-old Hafunda Helasitus Hingashipola, to death with sticks during a fight at the Omakango Village, made their first court appearance on Monday at Oshakati magistrate’s Court.
Both the accused persons Amutenya Asel from Omatunda the village and Haufiku Stephanus from the Omakango village in the Endola area were remanded in custody. They are both aged 24.
The matter stems from an incident over the weekend where the person they are accused of killing accused them of stealing his USB memory stick on which some music were stored last Friday evening while all of them were drinking at Push and Pull Bar.
A fight broke out at the bar but the men went their separate ways afterwards. The deceased person did not let the matter go and went to look for accused persons at the house they were staying the next morning and a second fight broke out.
It is suspected that the deceased person sustained injuries during the fight that led to his death. The deceased person left the house of the suspects after the fight and he walked some distance into the open field before he suddenly collapsed and died.
During their appearance in court the accused persons were formally informed of the charges against them and their rights with regards to legal representation and bail were also Presiding magistrate Cynthia Matiti postponed the matter to the 28 February for further police investigation to be conducted.
