“THE Founding Father, Sam Nujoma, lives a healthy and fit lifestyle, so it is only befitting that we launch the eight edition of the Dr. Sam Nujoma Half Marathon to celebrate the legacy of our beloved funding father.”
These were the sentiments of MTC’s Corporate Affairs Manager, John Ekongo, during the launch of the Dr. Sam Nujoma Half Marathon that will see Namibian, as well as international marathon runners, competing in the 21km, 10km race category.
MTC has sponsored a total N$197 000, of which N$140 000 is in cash prize.
The half marathon will take place in Ausspannplatz on 12 May, which also happens to be the Founding Father’s 90 years’ birthday celebrations.
Ekongo said that the marathon is a sport platform open for both Namibian and athletes across the border to participate, compete and prepare for other international marathons.
He also said that other corporate companies should support the event despite the tough economic hardships.
“People should stop saying that MTC gets more profit and that’s why we are always sponsoring. Every cent that goes towards sponsorship is appreciates. So do not be stingy and come on board and contribute to the success of this event,” he said.
Secretariat from the Office of the Founding Father, Julia Meutudhana, said that Nujoma has expressed his profound gratitude for the event and to MTC.
“Young people must be prepared to come and support the initiative” she said.
