POLICE officers manning the permanent roadblock at Onhuno on the main road between Ondangwa and Oshikango had to run for dear life Sunday afternoon when a chain of motor accidents occurred at the very checkpoint meant to, among others, control traffic flow and ensure that all the vehicles on the road are indeed roadworthy.
It is alleged that the accident happened when a vehicle coming from the direction of Ondangwa stopped at the checkpoint, but the female driver of the vehicle immediately behind it failed to control her car and crashed into the stationary vehicle.
But the real drama occurred when police officers had to run and get out of the way as a third vehicle, speeding from the direction of Oshikango, crashed into one of the vehicles involved in the first accident.
There were no reports of serious injuries. The three vehicles, however, sustained moderate to extensive damage.
