OSHIKOTO Regional Governor, Henock Kankoshi, said preparation are in full swing in order to distribute drought relief food to the people.
Speaking to Informante, Kankoshi, stated that drought is affecting the people and livestock in the Region.
According to him, so far a total 18 677 household has been identified and registered to benefit from the drought relief food with a combined total beneficiaries of 211 026 of the severely drought affected people.
“The food has arrival in the region and we are going to distribute to the people very soon,” said Kankoshi.
Kankoshi noted that this year’s drought more severely compared to other years. He also noted that they expect to have more people registered to benefit from the drought relief programme.
The majority of Oshikoto people are mahangu producers. But unfortunately due to poor rainfall, people did not harvest anything.
Apart from mahangu, Kankoshi noted that because there is no grazing, most of our livestock are affected which is now a big problem in the region.
Although all people are affected, there are those who are really in need. Those with no income are said to benefit from the programe. Apart from the needy community, farmers will also be assisted with fodder and link to feed their animals.
