Members of the Drug Law Enforcement Division of the Namibian Police during an operation in the ongoing battle against the proliferation of illegal drugs arrested two people over the weekend after they were caught with cocaine in their possession.
According to Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the arrests were made on Saturday afternoon during a special operation.
He said officers first arrested the 46-year-old Zelda Lourens on the road near the water reservoirs between Mondesa and the Swakopmund aerodrome on the eastern outskirts of the holiday town when they found her with one gram of cocaine in her possession.
“Five minutes later the person who allegedly sold the illicit drugs to the woman was arrested at a house in Rokatoka Street in the Jabulani suburb of Mondesa. When the officers pounced on the drug dealers house they found the 36-year-old Ileni Ndawendwa Shitaleni with 34 grams of cocaine powder and ten full Mandrax tablets roughly valued at N$18 000 in his possession.’
According to Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu both the suspects appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of possession of illegal drugs. Because of the large amount of drugs found in his possession, Shitaleni faces a further charge of dealing in illicit drugs.
