FOUR people from the communal farming area of Omatjete were arrested at the start of the week after a 50-year-old man, whom they brutally attacked after accusing him of stealing a tin of fish, died in hospital.
According to Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu three men and a woman attacked the man sometime between Saturday evening and Sunday morning and beat the victim with their fists until he fell to the ground. After that they kicked and stabbed him repeatedly with sharp objects on his upper body which left him in critical condition.
The victim managed to walk on his own to the Omatjete Clinic for medical assistance. Upon his arrival at the clinic he was immediately transferred to the Omaruru State Hospital.
According to Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu the incident was only reported to the police when the victim succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on Monday afternoon.
An investigation into the matter led detectives back to Omatjete and revealed the identity of the suspects who were arrested shortly afterwards.
Three men aged 22, 27 and 33-years-old were taken into custody at Omatjete. The investigation led detectives further to the Mondesa residential area of Swakopmund where a 30-year-old woman was arrested for her alleged involvement in the brutal murder.
