A SPECIAL memorial service for the late Dr. Nickey Iyambo is scheduled to be held at the Onayena Village in the Oshana Region on Saturday.
The late Dr. Iyambo served as Namibia’s Vice President since 2015 but in February 2018 he resigned as a result of his health.
The final date and format of the funeral for the former Vice President of Namibia has not been made public yet because the Attorney-General of Namibia still needs to make a special proclamation in this regard and when gazetted can an official announcement be made.
Dr. Iyambo, died at his home in Windhoek last Sunday on the eve of his 83rd birthday, after a long illness. Since his death members of his family and friends gathered at his home to keep vigil and mourn.
President Hage Geingob in a special message earlier this week said: “The Former Vice President, Dr. Nickey Iyambo leaves behind a rich legacy of loyal service to the Namibian people. Our nation has lost a man on conscience and deep human values.”
Dr. Iyambo was member of SWAPO, and served as a member of the Namibian Cabinet since Independence in March 1990.
The late Dr. Iyambo is survived by his wife, Johanna Iyambo and four children.
