THE Chairperson of the Board of the New Era Publication Corporation, Essau Mbako, today said that he does not want to be drawn into the debacle surrounding the just opened criminal charges against former CEO Audrin Mathe out of respect for his family.
Mbako, however, confirmed that Mathe has been charged with theft and fraud for transferring the company car into his name without the board’s approval.
“I cannot really dwell into the merits and demerits of the matter as I am not the right person to talk to. This is a personnel matter and is currently with the ACC and Nampol. These competent bodies will investigate. I don’t want to be drawn into this out of respect for Mathe and confidentiality. The man has a wife and children,” Mbako said.
Nampol Spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi explained that although Mathe has been criminally charged, he has not yet been arrested.
“Investigations have commenced and once finalised, the docket will be sent to the office of the Prosecutor General who will then decide whether or not to prosecute. If it is decided that he will be prosecuted, he will be arrested,” Shikwambi said.
Mathe’s employment contract ended in January this year. The vehicle, a Range Rover Sport, was bought by the company to be used by the CEO and is valued at approximately N$1.1 million.
