THE Marula Game Ranch, a farm belonging to Russian billionaire, Rashid Sardarov, brought forth an urgent application to set aside subpoenas which would see management appear before the Labour Commissioner following the dismissal of the lodge manager and farm manager.
Couple, Elena Morales and Willa Liebenberg, were allegedly suspended in 2017 after they complained about their General Manager, Johaness Kotze, to their Administrative Director about irregularities at the farm.
Morales and Liebenberg allegedly complained about potentially illegal activities, ranging from the disappearance of wild animals, the burying of anthrax-infected rhinos, as well as possible bribery and corruption.
In November last year, Fabiola Katjivena, who was appointed as the arbitrator by the Labour Commissioner, subpoenaed the ranch’s management to appear before her on 4 to 8 March this year.
Now, the ranch’s legal practitioners are challenging the subpoenas as they claim it amounts to the abuse of the subpoena procedure.
“The purpose of this application is to seek an order setting aside the subpoenas. If they are not set aside, the business affairs at Marula Ranch would be interrupted as such parties would be prevented from attending to the affairs of the ranch during the period for which they are subpoenaed,” the applicants argued.
