Martin Andjaba appointed as acting education minister

PRESIDENT Hage Geingob has appointed Martin Andjaba, Minister in the Presidency, as the Acting Minister in the portfolio of Education, Arts and Culture.

In a press statement released today, Press Secretary at the Office of the President, Alfredo Hengari, stated that following the resignation of the  Minster of  Education, Arts and Culture, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, the head of state, in terms of section 4 of the Assignment of Powers act 1990, (Act No.4 of 1990), has appointed Andjaba in an acting capacity.

“With seven months left before the end of the term of the current government, coupled with the rights of Hanse-Himarwa under Article 47 (2) (a) of the Namibian constitution, the President has not appointed a new Minister in the Education, Arts and Culture portfolio,“ Hengari said.

Andjaba will assume all statutory functions of the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture as Acting Minister and the Deputy Minister, Anna Ngipondoka, will deputise him in that portfolio.
