Man in custody for murder

THE 34-year-old, Iigandjeni Shikwena, who stands accused of killing the 19-year-old Jekonia Hango Shipepewith a shotgun, made his first appearance in the Okahao Magistrate Court on charge of murder.

 

After Shikwena was informed about the charge he faces and his rights with regards to legal representation, Magistrate Selma Nakwaya, postponed the case to the 17 February 2020 to allow the accused person time to apply for legal aid and to allow the police time o further investigate the matter. The accused person was remanded in custody until his next appearance.

 

Inspector Lineekela Shikongo of the the Namibian Police’s Public Relation Division in the Omusati Region said that Shikwena and 19-year-old Jekonia Hango Shipepe had a heated quarrel, that resulted in a physical fight.

Shikongo said that the incident occurred on Saturday around 20:50 at Omakato location in the Onkwishi village of the Tsandi constituency.

 

“It was during the fight that the suspect went to his car from where he took a shotgun and shot the deceased once on the upper abdomen, which subsequently led to his death,” he noted.

 

According to Shikongo, the cause of the fight that led to the death of Shipepe is not yet established.
