THE Namibian Police in Oshana Region has arrested a man for reckless and negligent driving after he struck and injured a pedestrian but registered a charge of possession of illicit drugs when a significant amount of dagga was discovered in his vehicle.
Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of the Namibian Police’s Public Relation Division said the pedestrian was hit around 14h45 on Wednesday in the main road of Oshakati near by the New Game Bar.
“The suspect was driving a car with an Oshakati registration number and bumped a pedestrian who was crossing the road,” said Aiyambo.
According to him, the victim was rushed to Oshakati state hospital and she is admitted in ward six A in a stable condition.
Aiyambo identified the victim as 35 year old, Maria Shikongo from the Oneshila Location.
Aiyambo noted that the suspect has been arrested and a case of reckless and or negligent driving, defeating the course of justice and driving without a driving licence was open.
“The suspect is detained at Ongwediva police station, and during a search of his car, the suspect was found in possession of three packets or ballies of cannabis,” said Aiyambo.
Inspector Aiyambo said the suspect is expected to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate Court on Friday.
