Man accused of brutal murder remanded in custody

THE 54-year-old Philipus Hafeni Haihambo was remanded in custody after he made his first appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder which will be read along with the Domestic Violence Act.
Haihambo is accused of brutally murdering the 36-year-old Hanguwo Otiilie Mwateuvi on late on Sunday afternoon in a shack behind a house near Shop 4 in Kuisebmond. The accused person attacked his girlfriend with which he lived with a knife and used the weapon to cut her throat.
The Namibian Police in the Erongo Region reported that the senseless murder occurred at about 18:30 in the victims shack behind house number 930 in 21st Street of Kuisebmond.

According to a report about the incident provided by the Namibian Police the suspect was arrested shortly after the brutal attack.
During his first appearance before Magistrate Rhivermo Williams the accused person was formally informed about the charges he face and his rights with regards to legal representation was spelled out to him.
Haihambo indicated that he would apply for a state sponsored lawyer to handle assist him with his defence in court.
Prosecutor Maggy Shiyagaya informed the court that the investigation into the matter is still at a very early stage and that bail should not be granted to Haihambo because of high public interest in the matter. The prosecutor added that would also not be in the interest of Justice to set the accused person free on bail.
Before remanding Haihambo in custody Magistrate Williams postponed the matter to 30 October 2019 and informed the accused person that it is his right to bring a formal bail application to court before the date of his next appearance.
