The sale of grass – sold at prices that vary from as low as N$10 per bundle to as high as N$150 and higher per grass bale – is mushrooming in all northern towns and along the roads, but the traders have to constantly fend off herds of malnourished cattle that invaded towns in search of grazing.
“We are always alert because stray cattle are always surrounding us looking for something to feed on,” said Likius Iipinge, a 27-year-old grass vendor at Oshakati.
