Low voter turn-out mars Ondangwa by-elections

Placido Hilukilwa

THE Electoral Commission of Namibia’s returning officer for the Ondangwa Urban by-elections Rauna Nkandi said that all 21 polling stations opened on time this morning, but voter apathy was clear from the beginning.

The absence of queues at polling stations visited by Informanté so far confirms Nkandi’s assertion.

There are about 16,000 registered voters, but the constituency has a mixed record when it comes to registered voters who cast their ballots.

In 2014, general elections recorded a 102% turnout but only 28% turned up to vote in the 2015 regional elections.
