A VERDICT in a case in which a man is accused of fatally stabbing the mother of his child five years ago is set for next week Friday.
High court Judge Nate Ndauendapo was initially supposed to make a ruling this morning, but he was busy with another equally important judgment.
Johny Diergaardt, 30, stands accused of stabbing his girlfriend, Tiffany Lewin, 27 times in front of their then two-year-old child.
Diegaardt was previously employed at a medical aid fund and has throughout his trial maintained his innocence. “I do not remember the dates, objects involved in the murder, nor do I remember stabbing the deceased 27 times,” he said in a plea explanation.
The 21-year-old Lewin was killed on the eve of the national day of prayer against gender-based violence in Namibia in 2014, when the killings of intimate partners were reportedly at their highest.
