A WOMAN from Rehoboth, 40-year-old Wilfrieda Saron, was beaten to death with a spade in front of her mother on their way home from church while a 14-year-old ran in search of help.

Pictures of a man with scratch marks on his head and a sprained finger were circulated on social media platforms as proof of police brutality.
The vicious murder and alleged police brutality in Block E followed shortly after Khomas Regional commander, Commissioner Joseph Shikongo assured Namibians in general that the current joint crime fighting operation underway in Namibia, is aimed at the safety of law abiding citizens while urging the public to cooperate with the various law enforcement bodies involved in Operation Kalahari Desert to avoid unnecessary confrontations and altercations.
Saron was hacked to death with a spade by a man she recently ended a relationship with while she was walking home from church with her mother and daughter shortly after midnight on Monday.
According to the official report of the Namibian Police the attack occurred in Rehoboth early between 01:00 and 01:30 on Monday morning while the victim was on her way home from a church service in Block E.
“The women noticed someone following them in the dark and the oldest woman in the group told her granddaughter to run home and call her uncle for help. Soon after the suspect caught up with the two older women and started chopping at their heads with the spade before fleeing into the dark.”
According to the report Saron died where she fell to the ground after sustaining deep cut wounds to her head and upper arms while her mother was rushed to the St Mary’s hospital in a critical condition.
Information gathered by detectives after the gruesome attack states that deceased person ended her relationship with the suspect a week before the vicious attack occurred and that she had already entered into a new relationship.
Hardap Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay said the 37-year-old suspect was arrested about three hours after the cold blooded killing and is due to make his first appearance on charges of murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court later today.
