FORMER President Hifikepunye Pohamba has established a community education centre at his residence in Okanghudi, while calling for the establishment of centres for people with disabilities and homes for elderly people in every region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hifikepunye Pohamba Centre aims to support access to education and learning resources by providing learners and members of the wider community with books, computers, free Wi-Fi and other educational materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centre also has a dedicated children\u2019s section, including a kiddies\u2019 corner, providing a safe and stimulating space for young children while their mothers use the facility for studying and other educational activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is equipped with 10 computers provided by the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, as well as photocopying facilities and free Wi-Fi to support access to information and digital learning resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a visit to the facility, Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare commended Pohamba for the initiative, describing it as a contribution that will benefit both the current generation and generations to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ngurare said the initiative supports the objectives of NDP 6, particularly its focus on expanding access to quality, inclusive and equitable education and developing human capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also called on education partners, the private sector and other stakeholders to support the initiative, while encouraging communities and institutions across the country to emulate efforts that promote access to education and learning resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pohamba also called for the establishment of centres for people with disabilities and homes for elderly people in every region to ensure that vulnerable members of society receive adequate care, support and dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He made the proposal during the visit by Ngurare and Madam Ngurare to his residence in Okanghudi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pohamba urged the Government to strengthen support for people with disabilities, including greater access to employment and education, as well as appropriate support for people with albinism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe should help our people,\u201d Pohamba said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further proposed the establishment of regional centres for elderly people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ngurare welcomed the proposal, noting that such facilities could also create employment opportunities for nurses, caregivers and other professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
