COMET 220P\/McNaught has undergone a dramatic increase in brightness following its second major outburst, with a striking new image captured from Namibia showing the comet glowing green and displaying a long, wispy tail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The image was captured from Farm Tivoli in Namibia on 8 August by astrophotographers Gerald Rhemann and Michael J\u00e4ger, providing a detailed view of the comet following its recent surge in activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The outburst briefly brought the comet close to naked-eye visibility, transforming what had previously appeared as a faint object into a significantly brighter feature in the night sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The comet remains visible in the predawn sky with binoculars or a small telescope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rhemann, who has been photographing the night sky since 1989, works from locations including the Austrian Alps, the Canary Islands and the deserts of Namibia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He specialises in deep, wide-field images of the Milky Way and comets, using short-focal-length telescopes and large-format cameras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rhemann and J\u00e4ger also collaborate in searching the sky for undiscovered comets and documenting those that are currently visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their comet photographs have attracted interest from the scientific community and have been published on NASA’s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The latest image of 220P\/McNaught was captured using an ASA Astrograph 12-inch f\/3.6 telescope and a ZWO ASI 6200 MM Pro camera, with LRGB exposures of 23, 9, 9 and 9 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
