The south continued to experience sustained heavy rainfall this weekend, leading to rising river flows and increasing dam levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Namibia Meteorological Service, more rainfall is expected in the south on Monday, with the south-eastern parts of the \/\/Kharas Region likely to be the most affected.Several areas in the Hardap and \/\/Kharas regions have already been drenched following consistent rainfall throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bethanie in the \/\/Kharas Region was among the hardest-hit areas, recording more than 40 mm of rainfall between Saturday and Sunday. Other southern places, including Mariental, Maltah\u00f6he, Gr\u00fcnau and Helmeringhausen, also experienced rain over the weekend, as well as occasional hail storms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rainfall brought renewed flow to several rivers, including the Fish, Tsondab and Holoog rivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southern dams also recorded notable increases, with the most significant rise observed at Naute Dam, which stood at 108.9% of capacity on Monday, 15 June 2026, and increased to more than 116% over the course of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NamWater reported that Naute Dam recorded a water level of 116.9% at 06h00 on Sunday and rose to 117.3% by 08h00. This prompted NamWater to open one sluice gate to 0.9 m, releasing water at a rate of 102 m\u00b3\/s. By 13h00 on Sunday, the dam stood at 116.5% of capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NamWater added that, like the Naute Dam, the Neckartal Dam is also overflowing and releasing water into the Fish River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The public is urged to remain vigilant, as this rainy period in the south, particularly in the \/\/Kharas Region, is not yet over.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
