Addressing the gathering, President Nandi-Ndaitwah described the event as both a solemn remembrance and a celebration of the courage, resilience and visionary leadership of Ombara Kahimemua Nguvauva and others who resisted colonial occupation.

She said Namibia’s identity as the “Land of the Brave” is rooted in the sacrifices of leaders who fought for freedom, justice and human dignity, and whose legacy continues to inspire generations.

The President called on Namibians to reject tribalism, regionalism and discrimination, and to embrace unity, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence, stressing that safeguarding the country’s independence requires collective responsibility and commitment to nation-building.

She further reaffirmed Government’s commitment to working closely with traditional authorities, describing them as key partners in promoting social cohesion, preserving cultural heritage and advancing development in communities across the country.

On the 1904–1908 Genocide, President Nandi-Ndaitwah said discussions between Namibia and Germany are ongoing and expressed hope for a dignified and mutually acceptable outcome. She also highlighted the importance of Genocide Remembrance Day, observed annually on 28 May, as a moment of reflection and unity.

She urged Namibians to remain custodians of the country’s liberation legacy and to work together in building a prosperous, inclusive and united nation for present and future generations.
