PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah recently met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Johannesburg, where both leaders reaffirmed the strong ties between their countries, grounded in a shared history, and indicated their commitment to expanding cooperation across diverse sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The meeting provided an opportunity for the two leaders to reaffirm the longstanding and fraternal relations between Namibia and South Africa, rooted in a shared history of liberation and strengthened through decades of cooperation and mutual support,” the Namibian Presidency said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Presidency noted that Namibia and South Africa continue to enjoy excellent bilateral relations, marked by regular high-level engagement, strong political cooperation and expanding economic ties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The presidency added that, as neighbours and partners, the two countries remain committed to advancing regional integration and development through frameworks such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The leaders noted the important role of the Namibia\u2013South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in driving bilateral cooperation and monitoring the implementation of agreed programmes and initiatives. They further welcomed the broad scope of collaboration between the two countries, which is underpinned by more than 150 agreements and memoranda of understanding across various sectors, including trade, defence, education, infrastructure, energy and diplomacy,” the Namibian Presidency explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Presidency, the two leaders also exchanged views on regional, continental and international issues, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of both Namibia and South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These sentiments were echoed by the South African Government, which stated that “South Africa and Namibia share deep, fraternal diplomatic and historical relations forged through their shared struggles against colonialism and apartheid. Ties are cemented by strong economic interdependence, as Namibia and South Africa bilateral relationship is founded on political ties, leadership and economic integration.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
