TRAINEES at Gemsbok Farm under the National Youth Service (NYS) have expressed appreciation for the opportunities created through the Ministry\u2019s Namibia Integrated Landscape Approach for Enhancing Livelihoods and Environmental Governance to Eradicate Poverty (NILALEG) Project, which has generated employment and skills development prospects for hundreds of young people while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project has created more than 300 jobs through investments in fodder and charcoal production and has provided participants with practical training aimed at improving livelihoods and enhancing environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to project officials, more than N$800,000 has been invested to support fodder production and other income-generating activities at the farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to empower young people through skills development, encourage biomass utilisation and create sustainable economic opportunities in rural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the trainees, Festus from the Omusati Region, said the project has had a positive impact on participants since its launch in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are the first cohort that started here in 2024. When we arrived, conditions were difficult, but over time things improved and resources were brought in to support our work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Festus added that equipment provided through the project, including a tractor used for transportation and farm operations, has made it easier for trainees to carry out their daily duties and move between different work sites on the farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said participants are grateful for the opportunities created by the project and for the progress that has been made since its inception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are thankful that the project is going well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NILALEG Project continues to support youth employment and entrepreneurship while contributing to sustainable land management and environmental conservation efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
