DR Stanley Shanapinda has been appointed Executive Secretary of the Communications Regulators\u2019 Association of Southern Africa (CRASA), marking a significant regional leadership transition in the Southern African telecommunications and ICT sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shanapinda, who currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Namibia, confirmed that he has accepted the appointment following a competitive regional recruitment process. CRASA is a SADC-based organisation mandated to promote regulatory harmonisation and cooperation among communications regulators in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His appointment comes after serving as CEO of Telecom Namibia since 2021, during which the company implemented a wide-ranging transformation programme focused on network modernisation, digital transformation, customer experience improvements, and long-term sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Key initiatives under his leadership included the rollout of Telecom Namibia\u2019s Integrated Strategic Business Plan 2023\u20132027, upgrades to next-generation OSS\/BSS systems, advancements in fixed-mobile convergence, and increased investment in digital infrastructure and network expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shanapinda said his time at Telecom Namibia had been both a privilege and an honour, adding that while challenges remain in the telecommunications sector, the company had made significant progress in positioning itself for future growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt has been a privilege and honour to serve Telecom Namibia, its employees, customers, stakeholders and the people of Namibia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that his new role at CRASA presents an opportunity to advance digital transformation, improve regional connectivity, and strengthen regulatory cooperation across Southern Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Telecom Namibia\u2019s Board welcomed the appointment, describing it as a reflection of Namibia\u2019s growing contribution to regional ICT leadership. The Board said it looks forward to continued collaboration with regional partners to support digital development objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shanapinda will work with Telecom Namibia\u2019s Board, shareholder and executive management to ensure a smooth leadership transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a separate development, Telecom Namibia has announced the appointment of a new Board of Directors, effective 3 June 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Board is chaired by Mr Fimanekeni Petrus, with Ms Melanie Tjijenda as Deputy Chairperson. Other members include Mr Henock Immanuel, Ms Maria Haipinge, Prof Marvin Awarab and Mr Hasting Tjipueja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outgoing CEO Shanapinda welcomed the new Board, expressing confidence in its ability to provide strategic direction and oversight during the company\u2019s ongoing transformation process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Board is expected to make further announcements regarding the appointment of a new CEO, who is scheduled to take office from 1 July 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
