TELECOM Namibia says it is pressing ahead with a nationwide network modernisation programme aimed at improving service reliability, speed and overall customer experience, while acknowledging recent network disruptions affecting parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement issued, the company said the upgrades form part of its 2027 Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP) and are intended to build a more resilient, future-ready communications network, even as some customers may experience temporary interruptions during the rollout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company said it is upgrading its core network infrastructure, including the introduction of a converged FMC Core designed to improve stability, capacity and connectivity nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Telecom Namibia is also working with SATEC to develop a new operations and business support system (OSS\/BSS), which will streamline billing processes and provide a more unified customer experience across fixed and mobile services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the modernisation drive, the company is upgrading backup power systems, including generators, batteries and solar hybrid solutions, to ensure uninterrupted service delivery. It is also deploying advanced firewalls to strengthen data security for both the company and its customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobile and fixed broadband infrastructure is also being upgraded to support higher data speeds and growing demand. This includes the expansion of 4G and 4.5G services through the upgrading of existing 2G and 3G sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Telecom Namibia said it is rolling out fibre infrastructure countrywide, aimed at significantly improving internet speeds, business productivity, communication and access to information, while supporting long-term digital growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through its subsidiary PowerCom, the company said it has added 11 new mobile base stations and upgraded eight sites in 2026, with plans to roll out a further 19 sites by the end of the year. Coverage is also being expanded in underserved and high-demand areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company is further strengthening its national fibre backbone by laying new long-distance routes to improve redundancy between key cities and regions, while also enhancing cross-border connectivity through improved links to international submarine cable systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Telecom Namibia said it is also deploying advanced monitoring tools to detect and resolve network issues more efficiently, as part of efforts to reduce downtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond infrastructure upgrades, the company said its Business Re-engineering Project is aimed at improving internal processes to deliver faster and more customer-focused services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While urging customers experiencing service challenges to report issues through official channels, Telecom Namibia said it remains committed to transparent communication and minimising disruptions during ongoing upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
