{"id":394431,"date":"2026-05-13T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=394431"},"modified":"2026-05-12T19:51:52","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T17:51:52","slug":"kunene-kavango-and-orange-rivers-record-rising-water-levels-over-past-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=394431","title":{"rendered":"Kunene, Kavango and Orange rivers record rising water levels over past week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staff Reporter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THE Kunene River is once again experiencing increased flow, with discharge rising by more than 300 cubic metres per second (m\u00b3\/s) over the past week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Hydrological Services of Namibia, the Kunene River increased from a flow rate of 584.70 m\u00b3\/s last Tuesday, 5 May 2026, to 894.10 m\u00b3\/s this Tuesday, 12 May 2026. This is also higher than the flow recorded on the same date last year (12 May 2025), when the river stood at 304.90 m\u00b3\/s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kavango River at Rundu also recorded a rise in water levels over the past week, increasing from 7.02 metres (m) last Tuesday to 7.21 m this Tuesday. This is also higher than the level recorded on the same date last year, when the river measured 6.46 m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Orange River also saw rising water levels over the past week. According to the Hydrological Services of Namibia, the Orange River at Blouputs rose from 2.56 m last Tuesday to 3.14 m this Tuesday, while at Sendelingsdrift it increased from 2.50 m to 3.36 m over the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In contrast, the Zambezi River has continued to decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hydrological Services of Namibia reported that the Zambezi River at Katima Mulilo fell from 6.00 m last Tuesday to 5.71 m this Tuesday. The current level remains slightly higher than the 5.37 m observed during the corresponding period last year.
