THE Anti-Corruption Commission of Namibia (ACC) has arrested Emiriha Mueshika Haikela, a 40-year-old Human Resource practitioner employed at the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Arts and Culture, stationed at the Dr Frans Indongo Building, Khomas Regional Office, on a charge of bribery in contravention of sections 33 and 43(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marina Matundu, Public Relations Officer at the ACC, said Haikela demanded a bribe in the amount of N$11,000 in order to secure employment for another person in the position of Chief Hostel Matron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn addition, he also provided the person with questions and other documents for preparation and to ensure that the person gives all correct answers during the interviews. Investigations by the ACC revealed that the person was ultimately appointed to the position and made payments to the accused in the amount of N$10,000, which was paid in different portions,\u201d Matundu said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that the first deposit of N$4,000 was paid before the person went for interviews, and after the person was employed in the position of Chief Matron, the balance was paid on a monthly basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cInitially, the accused person demanded a bribe in the amount of N$11,000, but only N$10,000 was paid to him before the matter was brought to the ACC\u2019s attention,\u201d Matundu said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The accused was arrested on 8 April 2026 in connection with the ongoing investigation and appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate\u2019s Court on 9 April 2026, where he was denied bail. The matter was postponed to 9 June 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe ACC remains committed to investigating and combating corruption in both the public and private sectors and urges members of the public to report any suspected corrupt activities,\u201d Matundu concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
