Over the past three years, a total of 30 people have died from food poisoning in the Kavango regions. The Director of Education in the Kavango East region, Christine Shilima, has confirmed the case. She said that out of these 283 learners, four have been admitted to the hospital, while 11 are under medical observation. The remaining learners are being attended to by Ministry of Health and Social Services officials at the school hostel. The incident was reported this morning, and learners are suspected to have been affected by food consumed on Monday, with most showing symptoms of stomach cramps and diarrhoea. Since the beginning of 2026, at least five separate cases have been reported, resulting in four deaths.
