THE Ministry of Health and Social Services has officially declared the end of the Mpox outbreak in the Swakopmund district of the Erongo Region and the Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) outbreak in the Omaheke Region, following months without new infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, the ministry said the Mpox outbreak in Swakopmund was first declared on 19 October 2025 after a laboratory-confirmed case was detected a day earlier. Namibia recorded three confirmed cases during the outbreak, with all patients making a full recovery and being discharged from isolation on 12 November 2025. No deaths were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Health authorities said the last confirmed case was recorded on 21 October 2025. In line with guidelines from the World Health Organisation and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, an outbreak can be declared over after a defined period without new infections. In this case, 90 consecutive days passed without additional cases, indicating that transmission had been successfully interrupted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry also declared the end of the CCHF outbreak in the Omaheke Region. The outbreak was announced on 28 November 2025 after a laboratory-confirmed case was recorded on 21 November 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CCHF is a viral haemorrhagic disease mainly transmitted through tick bites or contact with infected animal or human bodily fluids. The single confirmed patient died from the disease, and a safe burial was conducted by trained personnel in accordance with health protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities said transmission is considered interrupted when no new cases are detected during two incubation periods, which for CCHF amounts to 28 days. Following the initial case, no further infections were reported and all identified contacts completed their monitoring period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry said the successful containment of the outbreaks was the result of coordinated public health measures, including the activation of emergency health management committees, extensive contact tracing and monitoring, strengthened surveillance, laboratory testing and community awareness campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additional measures included veterinary assessments and tick control interventions, as well as public education for farmers on safe animal handling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the declaration, the ministry said national surveillance systems remain on high alert to ensure early detection and rapid response to any future cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry also thanked healthcare workers, government institutions, development partners, community leaders, the media and the public for their role in helping contain the outbreaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
