GOVERNMENT has resolved to remove the 5% co-payment under the Public Service Employees Medical Aid Scheme (PSEMAS), a move expected to improve affordability and access to healthcare for public servants. The decision was reached following consultations between the Government Negotiating Team and recognised trade unions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The changes will take effect on 1 April 2026. Under the revised contribution structure, PSEMAS members on the low option will see the main member contribution increase from N$120 to N$240 per month, while dependants will pay N$120, up from N$60 per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the high option, the main member contribution will increase from N$240 to N$500 per month, while dependants\u2019 contributions will rise from N$120 to N$240 per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to scrapping the 5% co-payment, government announced that broader reforms to PSEMAS are underway. These include the introduction of strengthened financial controls, the implementation of a defined annual benefit per member, and the establishment of a PSEMAS Governance Committee to oversee the full rollout of reforms by 1 April 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
