THE deadly Namibian femicide pandemic reared its ugly head in the southern town of L\u00fcderitz after a 33-year-old Namibian, Duarte Howard Humphries, strangled his girlfriend to death before committing suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
||Kharas crime investigation coordinator Deputy Commissioner Nicodemus Mbango said that the murder-suicide incident happened between Monday, 2 February 2026 (exact time unknown) and Tuesday, 3 February 2026, at around 11:30 pm at Area 2 location, L\u00fcderitz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mbango stated that it is alleged that the now-deceased Humphries was on the run after police were searching for him as a suspect in an alleged attempted murder case, where he allegedly assaulted the victim seriously by cutting him on the neck with a construction knife used to cut electrical wires, as per L\u00fcderitz CR04\/02\/2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is further alleged that the suspect could not be traced at first as his residence was locked up.
A spare key that was with his brother was used to gain access into the house.
Upon entry into the house, two lifeless bodies were discovered. One body was that of the wanted suspect (Humphries), and the other was his girlfriend, who are known to be in a romantic relationship but not cohabitating,\u201d Mbango said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the body of the said girlfriend was in a supine position on the ground floor with visible strangulation marks around the neck and scratches on her wrist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other body of Humphries was found hanging from the house\u2019s roof beam with a rope and chain tightened around his neck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both bodies were certified dead by the State Doctor, Dr Lama, and said to have ceased living during the period of Monday, 2 February 2026, or in the early morning hours of Tuesday, 3 February 2026, when found, according to the doctor\u2019s estimations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No suicide note was found, thus making the possible motive for the alleged murder unknown at this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both next of kin were informed.
The bodies were transported to the L\u00fcderitz State Hospital Mortuary for storage and further arrangements for an autopsy to be conducted to determine the cause of death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The deceased girlfriend is identified as Friedda Esther Ndinoshisho, aged 47.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to statistics, a total of 4 405 cases of gender-based violence (GBV) were reported between April 2024 and February 2025.
The community is advised to report all cases of GBV to the toll-free numbers 106\/116 and 10111.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police investigations in the matter continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
