{"id":382321,"date":"2025-09-19T02:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=382321"},"modified":"2025-09-18T21:52:24","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T19:52:24","slug":"central-hospital-to-host-suicide-prevention-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=382321","title":{"rendered":"Central Hospital to host suicide prevention event"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staff Reporter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THE Mental Health Centre of the Windhoek Central Hospital will this Friday host the belated commemorative event of World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), which is observed annually on 10 September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this month, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah revealed that Namibia now tops the list of suicide cases in Africa. A total of 542 people took their own lives in Namibia during 2023\/2024, &#8220;a record no one feels proud about,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WSPD is observed to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides, with various activities held around the world since 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year&#8217;s theme is: &#8220;Turning the narrative of suicide; turning awareness into action; breaking the silence; end the stigma.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ministry of Health is organising the commemoration in collaboration with the International Association for Suicide Prevention, the World Health Organisation, and the World Federation for Mental Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Picture for illustrative purposes only.
