THE Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF)\u2019s project proposal to establish a Green Industrial Zone has advanced to the final stage for approximately N$625 million in funding under the prestigious Mitigation Action Facility (MAF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was according to Romeo Muyunda, who said the EIF\u2019s proposal to establish Namibia\u2019s first Green Industrial Zone is among the top 20 shortlisted from over 500 global submissions, positioning Namibia at the forefront of sustainable industrial development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe project proposal underwent a rigorous virtual assessment in August, with a final board decision expected in October,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that if approved, the funding will be transformative, driving low-carbon industrialisation, creating green jobs, and strengthening Namibia\u2019s transition to a sustainable economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moreover, Muyunda indicated that they have already acquired land for the development of the Green Industrial Zone project at Farm 58 in the Erongo Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once developed, he said the proposed Green Industrial Zone will serve as a hub for green industries, hosting a diverse range of activities including, but not limited to, renewable energy, sustainable manufacturing, clean tech industries, natural resources value chain development, and other activities that reduce the impact of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stressed that the project will also make a direct contribution to Namibia\u2019s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
