Photos: Vice President of Namibia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Witbooi said that the enlisted candidates were drawn from various regions across the country, including marginalised communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis figure, drawn from all 121 constituencies across the country, is a clear testament to the growing interest of our youth to be trained in national service, not only as a potential pathway to employment opportunities, but also as an institution that fosters personal development and enables meaningful contribution to nation-building and above all, an institution that impact meaningful grounding of our youth. Regrettably, due to budgetary constraints, the Service was only able to enlist 1,068 youth this year, inclusive of 50 youths from Marginalised Communities,\u201d Witbooi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to her, the current administration has placed youth empowerment at the core of its national development priorities, which is why the government aims to enlist larger numbers of youth in the National Service Training programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn pursuit of this goal, the Government is implementing strategic, youth-focused interventions aimed at combating the persistent challenge of youth unemployment, while also enhancing access to quality skills training and sustainable economic empowerment opportunities. These efforts are not only a response to the immediate socio-economic needs, but a long-term investment in building a skilled, self-reliant, and resilient generation,\u201d Witbooi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also highlighted the government\u2019s commitment to youth empowerment, citing the recent allocation of N$257 million in the 2025\/26 Financial Year for the establishment of a dedicated National Youth Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis landmark initiative is designed to support youth-led entrepreneurship, start-up ventures, and graduate internship programmes. It is therefore essential that graduates of the National Youth Service are strategically positioned to take full advantage of these opportunities, particularly those who have completed the Service\u2019s Skills Training Programme. These young men and women form a critical part of our emerging skilled workforce and exemplify the empowered youth; the Government seeks to uplift through such targeted interventions,\u201d the Vice President said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, she announced that the National Service Training programme has been extended from six to seven months. The extra month will be dedicated to compulsory voluntary service, ensuring recruits engage in activities of national importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI therefore call upon all offices, ministries and agencies to avail voluntary service opportunities to National Youth Service when called upon.
