{"id":379234,"date":"2025-07-28T20:37:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-28T18:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=379234"},"modified":"2025-07-28T20:11:57","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T18:11:57","slug":"cabinet-approves-new-measures-for-sustainable-fishing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=379234","title":{"rendered":"Cabinet approves new measures for sustainable fishing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staff Reporter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CABINET approved that a Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of 10,000 metric tonnes be set aside for Governmental Objectives for the remainder of the 2025 fishing season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was announced by the Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Emma Theofelus, during the recent Cabinet briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She revealed that Cabinet also approved the implementation of a moratorium for at least three consecutive years, until the pilchard biomass reaches one million metric tonnes, in order to increase the likelihood of a sustainable spawner biomass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, Theofelus stated that Cabinet approved the allocation of the TAC to a company or companies with processing facilities that utilise environmentally friendly fishing methods, and that the fish caught under this TAC be processed locally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Picture for illustrative purposes only.
