{"id":378645,"date":"2025-07-17T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=378645"},"modified":"2025-07-17T17:23:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T15:23:12","slug":"cran-confirms-cybersecurity-breach-involving-otjiwarongo-municipality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=378645","title":{"rendered":"CRAN confirms cybersecurity breach involving Otjiwarongo Municipality"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staff Reporter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Namibia Cyber Security Incident Response Team (NAM-CSIRT) has identified a cybersecurity incident involving systems or networks belonging to the Otjiwarongo Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Executive of Communication and Consumer Relations at the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), Mufaro Nesongano, confirmed that the incident was detected on 16 July 2025 through credible threat intelligence sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPreliminary indications suggest possible data exfiltration and a ransom demand by a threat actor identified as \u201cINC Ransom,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nesongano assured that NAM-CSIRT remains committed to transparency and will continue to keep stakeholders informed of any significant developments, without compromising the integrity of the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGiven the sensitivity of the matter, NAM-CSIRT has notified the municipality and recommended immediate containment measures, including data mapping to determine the extent of exposure and the isolation of affected systems.
