{"id":373003,"date":"2025-04-10T21:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-10T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=373003"},"modified":"2025-04-10T18:31:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T16:31:24","slug":"communities-near-orange-river-urged-to-stay-alert-amid-rising-water-levels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=373003","title":{"rendered":"Communities near Orange River urged to stay alert amid rising water levels"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staff Reporter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">COMMUNITIES near the Orange River in Oranjemund are urged to remain vigilant due to the risk of elevated river levels and potential flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This alert has been issued by Namibia\u2019s Hydrological Services, which reported that the water level of the Lower Orange River at Sendelingsdrift measured 1.83 metres (m) on Wednesday, 9 April 2025 \u2013 a significant rise from the 0.81m recorded on 1 April 2025. Meanwhile, the Orange River at the Blouputs station recorded a level of 1.46m on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rise in the Orange River\u2019s water level is partly attributed to overflows and water releases from major upstream dams in South Africa, particularly the Vaal Dam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe major upstream dams in South Africa are currently above 100%. It is expected that the flows in the Lower Orange River will remain high in the coming weeks with more water on its way, as a result of further overflows and releases from the upstream dams,\u201d the Hydrological Services explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The South African Department of Water and Sanitation confirmed that the Vaal Dam continues to rise.
